Yahoo! Pop, a spanish language destination site, turns aggregate search data into visual news. This is accomplished by ranking the most popular searches by day and month, while giving the results to users in visually stimulating images. The site is available in the U.S., Mexico, Argentina, and Brazil.
Pop presented a variety of challenges in its creation, mostly in the backend functionality of the site itself. All search engines collect data on each days’ search terms. Simply using that data, however, for your top searches is not enough. A large percentage of searches are related to adult content. This data doesn’t work well for the site and, for the most part, the top searches based on volume rarely fluctuate.
